Website

Video

Link + Embed

MP4/Webm

Simple process: Add the url of the video to the note. Text me that you are doing this and then I will come in and manually embed the video until I can figure out something automatic or you know how to do it yourself. Doesn't really matter how it's done - right now (at site conception) none of the videos are embedded so it's not that important.

What is very important is if the video in question is copyrighted material, because even if it is on YouTube or Vimeo or whatever, if it is copyrighted material then we are doing something wrong by hosting it. I don't want to take any chances, do your research, and if you think it's not ok to post, don't.

The file will be available for download on the note and won't show up in a media player, so it's mostly recommended that this isn't done. However, if you must, that's fine - just talk to me about it. Also, nothing pirated.

Link

By far the most straightforward process possible and basically impossible to do illegally. Link a website URL, and write a brief description of what the website is and what it is for or don't whatever. Take a screenshot if you want and post it alongside it if you want too, for detail, but you don't have to.

You are posting work that is free to the public but explicit permission has not been given to post the work directly to this site

Writing

Copyrighted, published work like books etc.

You Have the Author's Explicit Permission to Post Their Work on This Site / You Are the Author / It is a screencap of inherently anonymous users (like an imageboard post/conversation)

Post the link to the work. Do not directly copy and paste the writing in the note. Giving your summary of the writing is also fine but post the link to the original writing always and don't paste it directly.

Post the link of where to buy the work. Give a summary or post the official summaries on the site/back of the book in the note.

Music

YouTube/Video Link to Music

Full Album

Please only post links to videos that have been okayed by the record label to post (almost always in the description of the video) or from bands that self publish their music on youtube directly

Individual Song

You should really try to post the full album unless it's a single

Get information from RYM (if possible) to fill metadata because it is reliable, should usually post full artist.

MP3/FLAC downloads

Please just don't do this for now

Else

THIS IS ALL SUBJECT TO CHANGE AS THE SITE EVOLVES AND THE CHALLENGES OF DATABASE MANAGEMENT MAKE THEMSELVES KNOWN WITH GREATER VOLUME AND VARIETY OF INPUTS AND SAFETY RISKS

Contact me directly

Your own music

Literally whatever you want

Others Works (not public domain)

Please just link to the artists galleries or send a link to the picture and where it is officially hosted online I don't want to get muddled up in anything

Historic works and public domain

Art/Photography

Your own work

Just post it directly on the note as an image that's fine

Really do whatever you want

Tabular Data

Post as a table using an external application that converts .csv into markdown, and then also upload the .csv file for download

IMPORTANT NOTE THIS WOULD BE DONE COMPLETELY DIFFERENTLY IF I WAS NOT HOSTING THIS ON QUARTZ, IF THIS WERE A LOCAL DATABASE I WOULD USE PLUG-INS THAT WOULD MAKE TABULAR DATA MUCH MORE CLIENTSIDE ACCESSIBLE

METADATA [[Publishing Guidelines#yaml metadata lists|GUIDELINES]]

Keep all of the text in-note, no need for a link to another site. In the case of an imageboard post, just take screenshots instead of copying the text.

Artist Page

Should always post page that best allows client side to support the artist, like bandcamp.
